Cuco Martina leaves FC Twente to join Southampton FC


As of now defender Cuco Martina will be playing in the Premier League. The former player of FC Twente is leaving to join English Premier League club Southampton FC under head coach Ronald Koeman. Martina signed a two-year contract in England.

P4P ensured the transfer to the English Club; A real dream come true for Martina. "Of course I am very thankful for this transfer and I am very happy that together we were able to make this possible. Without a doubt I will have to prove myself, show my worth and what I can do. I will let my feet do the talking. P4P assisted me in numerous ways and I am very content with that."

"The transfer being concluded this fast was a real surprise to me", Martina says. "This is a very good step forward for me. I briefly spoke to Ronald Koeman about my position in the team and his vision for me. From there on I hope I can play a lot of minutes for Southampton and get the chance to show what I am capable of. Nevertheless, that last part is all up to me".

The deal between Southampton and Martina was concluded very swiftly. "This is a good opportunity and a good step for Martina. We concluded the transfer within one week", says managing director Steve Ebecilio.

Martina will meet several fellow Dutchman at Southampton. Both coaches Ronald Koeman and Erwin Koeman are Dutch, and also recently goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg was signed by Southampton. Southampton will take Cuco Martina to the European League since the team did an terrific job of securing a position through the national competition.

RBC Roosendaal is where Martina started his professional career. After this club unfortunately went into bankruptcy, Martina transferred to RKC Waalwijk. It was at RKC where he made the impeccable impression that earned him a transfer to FC Twente. With FC Twente, Martina first started in Young FC Twente, but after proving himself, he was promoted to a valuable starter and a second captain this last season. Martina intends to further improve his development in England.
"I definitely started at the bottom. Through RBC I had the chance to intern at RKC and earned myself a contract for three years. After two seasons I transferred to FC Twente where I was able to play and be myself, doing my own thing. All of this eventually lead to this great step in my career. It has been a long road which made me very aware of where I am right now."
